Miss J at 19 months
So, one more off-topic post here before we continue on with curriculum...
I just have to record some of these things Miss J is doing right now before they slip from my memory and/or she outgrows them. She is just such a blessing!
And here's a snippet of Twinkle Star (We found this $2 Minnie Mouse guitar whilst shopping at Savers the other day, and it kept her entertained for the entire hour-long shopping trip while the bigger girls tried things on... so of course we bought it for her, because, ya know, it had already paid for itself in entertainment value!):
Now that she has perfected both Twinkle and ABC she is moving on to Baa Baa Black Sheep, Baby Beluga, and also the "Dreams" song from the kids' church pageant this year.
It has been so cool watching her language development-- that has always been one of my favorite things about the toddler age, because it opens up a window for you as to what's going on inside their heads... and it's always fascinating and sometimes hilarious! Although J can sing a song in it's entirety, she had been limited to 1-word spoken phrases until about two weeks ago. Then she started putting two words together (i.e. "J's turn", "Mama do", "My car" etc.), and just today we started hearing three-word phrases (N was first to notice and point it out to me... I can't remember what it was J said but it was almost a complete sentence!) She understands everything the sisters say (as evidenced by her ability to follow their sometimes complicated directions to her!) and lately has started to participate more in the conversations and it's just amazing to watch.
Some of my favorite things she's talking about:
1) Whenever we see a bird out in the yard (most often they are robins, but sometimes she reacts this way to mourning doves as well) she shrieks, "PENGUIN!!!" and takes off toward the window to watch (or, if we're outside, she will chase it). She says this so often that the bigger girls and I have started calling them penguins too, e.g. "See any penguins outside today J?"
2) She is really fascinated by the mailman, whom she refers to simply as "Man", and often asks when he will arrive. She approaches me and questions, "Man? Mower?" (Mower is what she calls the mail truck, I guess because it is somewhat smaller than a real truck and has an engine that sounds a bit like Daddy's mower.)
3) She calls our red Little Tikes wagon the "dragon" and repeatedly asks for rides from big sisters around the backyard (she loves this activity and could do it for hours, or as long as big girls' patience lasts, whichever comes first). A frequent request from her is "PLEEEASE, dragon???"
Lastly, her FAVORITE book right now is Shades of People, which I think is just so wonderful. She spends hours studying the photos and wants to read it again and again and again.
So those were the things I wanted to share :) I am so celebrating right now that I remembered them all! Things pass by me so quickly and my memory is pretty terrible these days. Anyway, hope you enjoyed it!

(fascinated by the selfie, as most kiddos are)
She is the best snuggler and liberally gives hugs and smooches to just about anyone that she knows. Even strangers will at least get a big wave and a smile, and sometimes a high-five. She's a super-duper friendly little girl!
She loves, loves, loves music and singing. If classical music is on she will dance "BAllet" (emphasis on the first syllable, since she learned the word from Emma Wiggle who is Australian) making slow, fluid movements with her arms, bending her knees and swaying, and attempting an occasional arabesque. If "rockin' tunes" (as the girls like to call it) are playing, you might see the butt waggle:
If any kind of song is being sung, she is joining in. She was just past her first birthday when she started singing "paaaaaaaa paaaaaa papadum" with the Wiggles, and has been working on the words to Twinkle Star and ABC ever since. She can sing both songs flawlessly now-- although she's quite camera shy so we have yet to get the entire song filmed (you can see her succumb to her shyness at the end of this video):
