Art Camp, Two Random Things, and Meal Plan
I could talk about what we did this weekend, but I feel like I should start at the beginning with my updates and that way the older things won't get forgotten and go unblogged. So let's talk about art camp, shall we?
The older girls had their first "camp" experience this summer at our local art museum's summer sessions. We debated several different camp options-- girl scout day camp, a day program at Old Sturbridge Village... all were sort of expensive and more of a commitment than we really wanted for this summer, with all of the traveling we did. I looked at a few art camps in the bigger cities around our area, and although they would probably have fit our schedule just fine, it would have been close to $1000 to send both girls.
One day in my internet searching I stumbled upon a camp happening at our small local art museum. It was perfect-- just a short camp, 10-2:30 each day, and only Monday through Thursday, only a 10-minute drive from our house. N and L could attend together in the same class. And it was less than $300 for *both* girls to go, including the supervised lunch period. We signed right up!
I didn't have high expectations given the fact that we didn't pay much for this camp, and our local art museum really seems to be struggling (they're only open a couple of days a week for limited hours). But this ended up being a fabulous experience and we will definitely be doing it again next year! The girls got to tour all of the galleries and did projects based on the kinds of art they saw and experienced. They were instructed in painting, drawing, and sculpting with clay and other materials. Their teachers were so friendly and taught them so much. And they even met some really great friends in their class as a bonus.
I took pictures of just a few of their projects, for posterity:
Dragon by L
Dragon by N
Walrus mosaic by L
Turtle by N
They "sculpted" their favorite places out of cardboard-- N chose Panera :)
For her favorite place, L chose Goofball Island from the movie Inside Out
L's favorite foods (sculpted from clay)... mac n' cheese, spaghetti, and ice cream
N's favorite foods... salad and chicken (with a fork and knife)
L's favorite animal-- a butterfly
N's favorite animal-- a dog
Animal masks made after touring the Egyptian gallery
I told the girls we need to open a gallery because our porch is still adorned with all of their projects. What a great learning experience! Both girls are still talking about how much fun it was!
I have two random things to share, and then the meal plan.
1) I love August weather. Mid 70's during the day and 50's at night? That's my jam. So awesome. I just wish it could be this way for many many months to come. Cool enough for comfort and even a sweatshirt at night, but still warm enough during the day for lots of outdoor adventures with the kids. I'm in the best mood right now. :)
2) Here's a random gif of C spinning in a chair at Ikea:
You're welcome!
Finally, the meal plan:

Monday breakfast: leftover pancakes and banana muffins from last week
Monday lunch: egg salad wraps

Tuesday breakfast: overnight buckwheat & steel cut oats
