Jumbled Up VII
I'm so thrilled to be able to present you with a quick Jumbled Up post this week. Brought to you courtesy of the end of my music theory class yesterday! Woot!
*Many thanks to those of you that have asked about my health after the post in which I complained heartily about the aches and pains of pregnancy. I really didn't mean to worry anyone or complain. Life is good in general and I have known people who have had a much tougher time with pregnancy. It's just a little surprising, I guess, how much difference aging a few years can make in how your body handles things.
I have had to make some adjustments in the amount of stuff I can do in a day. However, I was talking to M the other day and he was pointing out how much I still do... even the "bare minimum" when you're raising three kids still involves a lot of work. Anyway, I'm trying not to feel lazy for taking what feels like a LOT of shortcuts, and trying to scale back my plans for any long-term projects. I'm kind of hoping that now that work is done for the summer for me, I can perhaps get a few of those projects done before baby, but if not I really need to be okay with that. I'm thinking a lot about what I can handle for next year too and trying to be realistic.
I listened to a great podcast the other day featuring blogger Grace Patton, who is Mama to four little ones under the age of five, with a fifth on the way. She talked a lot about giving oneself grace in motherhood, and focusing more on accomplishments in the day rather than the mountain of things you didn't get done. Even if you got breakfast on the table for everyone, she said, count that as a victory, because some days it really is! There was a lot of talk too about not feeling guilty and not comparing, etc. All stuff I needed to hear. Mamas, I recommend a listen if you tend to stress about those things like I do.
*Our apple trees have never had so many blossoms as they do this spring. I'm not sure if it's the burst of hot weather we've had recently, or the super cold winter... what determines these kinds of things?
The bees are busy pollinating away and we watch them every morning from our dining room window as we eat breakfast. It makes me excited for a bumper crop of apples just like we had two years ago, and I'm picturing sitting out in the yard holding our newborn girl while the big girls run around and pick apples and eat them.
*This picture came home from preschool yesterday and made me smile:
*All the girls love taking pictures-- they would all use up all the memory on my phone taking pictures if I would let them. I'm thinking L's birthday present will be a little digital camera of her own because she spends hours at it (N is kind to loan her camera to L but she uses up a lot of batteries)! Even little C has gotten pretty good at taking selfies. Here are some of her best lately.
*My TV recommendation of the week: Grantchester!

C also enjoys taking pictures of random strangers.
These are not accidental... she deliberately picks a person she wants to photograph and just does it, shamelessly. Most of the time these people don't notice, thankfully.
I just love finding these on my phone later and realizing that she's been at it again.
It aired on PBS Masterpiece Mystery back in January and I started the first few episodes but then I got involved in another show... Call the Midwife I think? Anyway, I've been catching up on the last two episodes of the series on the treadmill lately and they have been riveting! It was a little slow to start but if you can stick it out to the end of the series, you'll like it I think. James Norton (whom you might recognize from Death Comes to Pemberly) is pretty easy on the eyes so I think that sort of kept me going through the more slow episodes... haha. If you're looking for something to watch, I'd recommend it!
That's all folks! I hope you're enjoying the week!
