Journalish
A few events in the past week occurred that I thought were worth recording!
We spent New Year's Eve at Old Sturbridge Village. The gals donned their "Mary and Laura dresses" with the new bonnets that Grandma got them for Christmas.
We have been checking the Dear America movies on VHS out of the library one by one, and the girls really enjoy the stories (I think they will love the books too once they're a bit older!). They decided they wanted to make a Dear America movie (using new journals and pens that they got for Christmas from Piper!) and so we thought, what better place to film it than OSV.
We did end up getting some footage but I have yet to edit and splice it and "put the letters in" (credits) as the girls desire. Maybe I'll share it with you someday because it was all really cute! For now, here's some pics of the day:
We had hot cocoa from the cafe (coffee for Mama) with our packed sandwiches.
The girls were quite taken with the large gingerbread house on display, and just stared at it for a long time (no doubt getting ideas for next year's gingerbread-house-making!)
making clay coil pots at the hands-on craft center!
It was a very cold day, so we managed a quick horse-drawn carriage ride around the mill pond, heavily bundled, and the rest of the time we stayed indoors at the "Mary and Laura play place" as the girls call it (the real name is the KidStory Gallery).
Over the weekend, N and I helped out at her troop's Girl Scout cookie booth. It was great-- I got to chat with Shel and N had tons of fun selling cookies with her friends. She got really excited whenever a "visitor" (her word for customer) would come over. N put herself in charge of bagging cookies while our friend Grace collected money and Emma kept cookies well stocked on the display. The three of them were super cute together.
What nice friends we are making at Daisies! So happy!
I got to thinking as we were driving home-- she used so many great skills making change that day! A "play booth" at home using our pretend money set would be a great homeschool idea, I think, that all of the girls would get into. Subtraction, addition, counting by 5s, 10s and 20s... {note to self-- save those empty boxes of girl scout cookies for future play}
Speaking of empty boxes of girl scout cookies...
I ended up coming home from the sale with five boxes of cookies purchased near the end, because I wanted to even out our numbers so the girls could get equal recognition (at least, that's how I justified the purchase of so many cookies to myself... ahem... ) Despite putting them high up on top of the pantry cabinet as pictured (out of sight, out of mind?), I have been liberally enjoying them this week. And you know what? The indulgence has been worth it. They are just as delicious as I remember from my own days of yore as a Daisy Scout. Yummy yumsters.
P.S. Did you know there's an app for that???
I feel like that lady at the end of the video... LOL.
Moving on. So this morning I thought my baked pumpkin oatmeal looked so pretty, and it makes me so happy every time I look at my new matching dishes purchased as an early Christmas present to myself at madly discounted Black Friday prices, that I just had to photograph my breakfast.
C saw me snapping pics of my food, and instead of remarking on my silliness, she thought, well, I should have a picture of my breakfast too, of course. She requested one, and I obliged.
I love that she crouched down in her chair so she wouldn't be in the picture, but you can still see the corner of her owl pjs and a whisp of blonde hair peeking out. And her blanky is on the table.
Oh and also... it was a day for Princess Leia buns.
I'm loving the car potty in the shot, and the naked Cabbage Patch doll. This is our life, folks!
L obligingly took photos of the finished product on N, as well as a selfie.
The end.
:)
