The Best Things in Life

* Sleeping in until 7:30 AM on a Saturday (thanks, kiddos!) and waking up next to a snuggly husband and the sound of the footsteps of a mouth-breathing two-year-old entering the room, who then 1) climbed over Mommy to snuggle in between Mommy and Daddy, 2) sneezed approximately 12 times and then 3) put her arms around Mommy's neck and pressed a warm cheek, fuzzy hair and snotty nose into my face.

{What?  That doesn't sound like the best thing in life?  Well, actually, it kind of is.  Especially when she has let me sleep in until 7:30, a little snot rubbing is definitely allowed.}

* A relaxed morning spent catching up with said snuggly husband over coffee, after a long and busy week of doing separate busy things apart from one another, while our children play happily together and spend over an hour making Thomas, Percy, and James out of cardboard boxes and pushing each other around the living room.

* Blasting out a 12.5-mile run, on an awesome cloudy and chilly afternoon, at a much faster pace than last week's hot, humid blech long run.  I feel vindicated.  And I beat the rain... I walked in the door just as the first drops began to fall.

* This forecast:

Summer has left the building.  And I'm glad!  After last week's extreme heat and humidity, I am pretty much ready for jeans and sweatshirts.

*Returning from my long run to find a sleeping C, a sleeping L, a sleeping Daddy, and a very much awake Darth Vader

...riding her bike (sans training wheels! her biggest accomplishment of late! hopefully will write more on that soon!) in circles around the porch, dodging cups and bunnies, and muttering "How Tall, How Short, How Far Away?"

{Sounds a bit crazy, but it was actually cute, you know?}

* A delicious post-run smoothie (coconut milk, a banana, generous globs of peanut butter, generous teaspoons of vanilla)... hastily snapped a photo before I downed it...

...and then a hot shower to warm up after a cool run!

* Post nap-time snuggles on a rainy afternoon, watching old movies of the girls when they were babies, and laughing hysterically.

* A relaxing Saturday spent with the people I love most in the world.

  1. Sounds like such a lovely day! Simple weekends all together are my favorite, too.
