Crafternoon II, Half Marathon Training, and Meal Plan
Whew! Big Birthday Party "Crafternoon" accomplished. N and all of her friends and family had a great time eating, crafting, and just hanging out together.
It was kind of a crazy week to be throwing a party... M started a new job this week! Long story to tell you there, but very exciting. He had a great week, but of course it was very busy, and he had some extra work to do in the evenings at times. So much of the party prep, craft planning, house cleaning, food making etc. was left for me to do on my own with the three girls in tow. Last night after it was all over I was more exhausted than I have been in a long while! I really didn't mind doing it-- it was a fun party to plan for, and my girls are amazing helpers these days. N actually vacuumed almost the entire upstairs level by herself the day before the party. Cleaning the house for her own birthday party? What 6-year-old does this? I am a lucky Mama.
I thought that N was a particularly gracious birthday girl-- sharing with friends, dutifully remembering her "thank-yous", making the introduction of plenty of friends who didn't know one another and trying to make everyone comfortable. She was definitely exhausted by the end and such a big event was understandably a little overwhelming for her at times, but I was quite proud of how well she held up. Sisters were also amazingly good, on no naps, with handling the fact that sister got the spotlight and the lion's share of the gifts. A few minor squabble-y moments but overall a great success!
In other news, I signed up for the Hartford half marathon last night! It's 9 weeks away!!!! Yikes!!!
I feel in pretty good shape, but long runs are few and far between just because I can't usually spare the time. But having this race on the calendar will force me to set aside some "me time"... which I think will be valuable in the coming weeks for de-stressing as homeschooling begins and I start my online class again (but only one section this year... did I tell you that yet? should be slightly more manageable). I'm going to follow the basic pattern of workouts I usually do, except adding a long run on the weekend...
Monday: 5-6 mile run
Tuesday: Crazy 8 workout followed by 15 minutes on the treadmill
Wednesday: 4-5 mile run
Thursday: 50-minute Pilates workout
Friday: Short easy run, or off
Saturday: Long run... starting with 9 miles this week and increasing by 1 mile each week until 3 weeks before the race, then tapering off
M is leaving later in the morning with his new job, so it's easier for me to squeeze in a workout before he goes now. Getting up at 4:45 just wasn't working for me.
I'll let you know next week how first-week training goes! I may be crazy!

As per usual with big parties, Mama was so busy playing hostess and craft-master that I didn't get an actual picture of the birthday girl in action! Rest assured, she was having fun.

Wednesday Supper: Leftovers
Thursday Breakfast: Leftover steel cut oats or buckwheat waffles from the freezer
Thursday Lunch: Scrambled eggs and fresh fruit; green salad for Mama

Friday Supper: Honey Baked Lentils with brown rice
Saturday Breakfast: Daddy makes waffles!
Saturday Lunch: various lunch leftovers from the week, salads
Saturday Supper: Leftovers

Busy week! So glad the party went well. I enjoy planning them too but it is definitely a relief when they're over. And how exciting on the half! It looks like you'll be fine.. you don't have too much to build back up to 13. Good luck with the training.
