Anniversary Trip Recap, Part 3

Whew! So... Part 3. Sorry for the delay between parts of this recap... these little ones are keeping me busy!

(Catch up on part one of the recap here and part two here.)

The day after our big hike and fancy dinner, we "slept in" until about 7 AM. Ha!  With wake ups between 5:30 and 6 most days when the kids are around, 7 felt pretty luxurious!  Neither of us slept too well that night, too... a round of severe storms went through and our hotel lost power-- and AC-- for a little while.

Nevertheless, we woke up, checked out of our hotel, and got excited to head out to our breakfast destination... Polly's!

Love the reflection of the selfie arm in M's sunglasses

The gorgeous view... you can see the three peaks we had summited the previous day, on the right under the cloud!

The view from my window at our table... cute yellow and red begonia window boxes matched the general color scheme!

I'm sensing a general theme of coffee on this getaway.
We spent most of the meal in silence as we focused on our amazing pancakes and waffles...

There was only the sound of M weeping with joy.

After stuffing ourselves thoroughly (although I guess it was well-earned given our previous day's activities) we decided to go to the {former} Old Man in the Mountain, since both of us had driven by it many many times but had never actually been to the historic site.

That's where he used to be up there, before he fell down.

And now they have these crazy poles sticking up with his silhouette on the end, so you can stand on the ground and look up at the pole and see what he used to look like.

It was a very pretty little spot and cool to learn some of the history of The Notch.

After that we still were feeling a bit stuffed from breakfast, so we though a short walk somewhere might help us digest.  We drove to The Flume Gorge and were disappointed to find out that you have to pay $15 per person to hike the trail!!  What up with that???

So we went up the highway one exit and decided to take the short walk to The Basin instead.  There were several trails that wound away from The Basin itself, so we chose to take one of them partway up  Kinsman Falls.

Then it was off to Loon Mountain Resort where we each had a massage and hung out in the hot tub.

Toes in the hot tub selfie!
My massage was incredible-- I've only had three massages in my life and this was definitely the best one.  I left feeling super relaxed.

I think we probably would have stayed here a bit longer and taken more advantage of the hot tub, indoor pool, steam room etc., but we had no cell phone signal at the resort and I was getting nervous about not being able to check in with my Mom and the girls.  Plus... I guess I was starting to feel a bit selfish about all the relaxing and good times we were having.  Funny how when you're a Mama you just get un-used to being pampered.

We started heading back down south, thinking about where we would go for dinner as we drove.  We debated a few options and finally settled on Hart's Turkey Farm.

I did not actually have turkey!  :/  I had a lobster roll.  It was delicious!!  M, of course, had a Oh My Gobble sandwich (you know, turkey with cranberry, stuffing, the whole nine yards).  And pumpkin pie for dessert.  It was like Thanksgiving in July.  Aw yeah.

We waddled out of the restaurant and drove our satisfied little selves back to our house, listening to all of our favorite music (not Raffi) and watching lightning flicker across the sky, and generally feeling even more in love than we were 10 years ago, and soooooo thankful that we had such a special time together.

The next day we just spent at home... sleeping, relaxing, running, blogging, meal planning, grocery shopping... a good mix of productivity and relaxation.

The day after that we met Grandma and the girls at Old Sturbridge Village, and had a fabulous reunion!

Aren't we just the luckiest?
