#SnowDay

What do you do when you have a snow day and everyone's home from school?

Why, experiment in the kitchen of course (while your girls play Frozen almost all day long... they've alternated between being Princess Ana and Princess Elsa... and they usually make little C play the part of the snowman Olaf).

{I just realized that the post I linked to there was from almost exactly a year ago... and I'd say this storm rivals that blizzard in terms of duration.  It began in the middle of the night last night, and was predicted to wrap up at about 11 AM when I last checked the forecast, but obviously that's changed because it is now nearly 6:30 PM and it's still snowing pretty heavily here.  In the video below I tried to get a shot out our kitchen/porch window of the snowing and blowing (the last 10 seconds or so of the video-- with our Wiggles music in the background and our porch mess in the foreground).  I took that video around 4:15 PM and you can see that the strength of the storm has not diminished!  We had a few inches of snow on Monday too, and there's another storm predicted for Sunday evening.  So much for a quiet winter.  Silly Mr. Groundhog.}

As for experimentation in the kitchen, this morning we made wheat-free crepes!  (I followed this recipe and used half millet and half quinoa for the whole grain.)  They were fairly simple to make as far as crepes go.  The cooking part of crepes is always a bit of work, standing over the pan and pouring/flipping them one by one, but the batter for this recipe was a cinch.  And as we discovered back when we made millet waffles, the final result was even more tasty than the wheat recipe we usually use.

The girls barely left any for me and M.

(We left the sugar out of the recipe itself so we could liberally sprinkle our finished crepes with powdered sugar!!)

I've also been trying to make my own Ezekiel bread for a few weeks since buying it in the store is SO expensive.  My first loaves last week came out flat as a pancake and super oily (thankfully, everyone was still willing to eat them... we polished off three flat loaves in a week!)  I tweaked the recipe and the bread came out much better this week.  I'd like to make a few more improvements, but perhaps I'll share the recipe here sometime.

It was another peaceful stay-at-home day.  C chose not to nap (she couldn't miss the opportunity of having N home from school to play with) so I didn't get much work done, but there's time elsewhere in the week for that.  Otherwise, it was an enjoyable day to remember!
