{pretty, happy, funny, real}

I'm keeping track of the little moments in our day today by linking up for {phfr}!

{pretty}

This week L had a special time at Grandma & Grandpa's house-- all by herself!  She enjoyed some wonderful one-on-one time and a couple of nights doing a "special sleepover".  N's turn comes next week!  (Thanks Mom and Dad!!)

And so, since I only had two girls to push in the double jogger, I was able to get my run in this morning on the trail near N's preschool.  I hadn't been running on this trail since before the winter's snow covered it, and I had sort of forgotten how pretty it is there.

{happy}

N snuggled into my bed this morning after she woke up, and since C was singing contentedly in her crib and not yet clamoring to get out, we spent a few minutes discussing our breakfast plans.  I told her we could make a special breakfast since Mommy had a bit more time with only two girls to get out of bed and fed.  And so we did.

Crepes with strawberry jelly.  And several generous helpings of powdered sugar, served by N to herself of course.

It was fun to spoil my "only" child a little.  I'm looking forward to doing the same for L next week!

{funny}

L returned this afternoon, and already she's providing us with all the zany conversation we've missed in the past few days.

As I put her to bed tonight, she brushed her teeth and then rinsed using a cup, gulping down the water as she finished.  One of the gulps went down the wrong way and she coughed.  She remarked, "Oh!  I have sickenings in my belly!"  She coughed again, looked at me with a sly sideways glance, moved her hand up to cover her mouth, and then coughed again.  "But I DON'T cough in your face," she said.  "I use my hand like this; don't worry."  Then came more fake coughing and mouth covering.

Later on, as we were settling into bed after story time, I realized we hadn't done a tick check after coming in from the backyard earlier.  I checked her arms and legs, and then asked if I could see her belly.  She said, "NO you can't see my belly.  I have sickenings in my belly.  I drank some water, and now I'm terrified.  And that's why you can't see my belly."

She says it all with a completely straight face, so maybe she's not meaning to be funny, but I can't help laughing.

Speaking of laughing, I should say that my husband never fails to crack me up.  He's been saying a lot of really funny things this week.  I debated sharing one or two of them here, but then I realized that they're all either inside jokes or would require too much explanation to even be funny.  Suffice it to say that I'm laughing on a regular basis, and that's what's important, right??

Speaking of "special sleepovers", N had her first sleepover at a friend's house tonight.

Serious {grown-up} pose

Mama says, "Don't you like to smile for pictures?"
How grown up is she?

My heart definitely broke a little as I said, "Call us if you need anything!!" and she didn't even look back.

We were a bit nervous, because this family has dogs and N is petrified.  But I just got a phone call from the parent with the report that N was on the floor playing with them and feeding them popcorn (they're super friendly and gentle dogs, thankfully)!!  She has never done anything like that.

Oh, my brave, brave BIG girl.  Wow.

Because she's my oldest, my mind is just blown with every milestone.  But I'm beginning to realize that I'm in for a lot of mind blowing, because, well... this little being that I nurtured from a tadpole in the womb just does crazier bigger things every day.  That's not a very eloquent way of putting it, but... well... mommies, do you know what I mean?
