Baby it's cold outside

I took these pictures last Tuesday, intending to write a post about how frigid our morning drives to preschool have been lately:

(please ignore the dusty dashboard and focus on the temperature reading)

Still chipper despite the cold!

L is the only one of us who can stand to be without mittens.  I do put them on her, but they come off pretty immediately.  Even the mitten clips we got for Christmas have been unclipped.  This girl prefers to wear as little clothing as possible most of the time-- even when it's 4 degrees.  A true New Englander.

Ironically enough, this morning as we left for preschool the temperature gauge read 50.  50!!!  It felt like summer.  Seriously... I wore a short-sleeved t-shirt with no jacket and felt just fine.

When we got home from preschool drop-off, L suggested "a walk in the garden" to enjoy the warmer temperatures.  We got out of the car and walked down the slope of our backyard towards the garden, and within minutes a gusty wind blew up and it started pouring.  We ran for the house quickly but still managed to get pretty soaked.

I guess Old Man Winter is not done with us yet.

Oh well, we enjoy these bursts of nice weather (however short) when we can get them.

Right now it's back down to 34, and it looks like the high tomorrow will be even less than that:  32.  And tomorrow night's low?  13.

Not that I'm complaining.  I've talked about it before-- I'm kind of enjoying cozying up with my family this winter.

I just love looking out our window here, seeing the slanted light and shadows... and the view of all of the things that I wouldn't be able to see if there were leaves on the trees.

The cold clarity and the way the snow clings to the trees, and the silence of all of nature sleeping.

It's pretty nice, actually.

  1. I lived in New England most of my life, but it is amazing to me how one year in South Carolina has changed my temperature perspective - a 50 degree day has you in a t-shirt, while a 50 degrees are our "cold" days here, and I wear a jacket and hat and gloves and shiver. I do miss New England!
