The Christmas Chronicle

We did a lot of celebrating around here!  It was all wonderful and our girls were blessed with lots of family time and cool presents.

On Sunday (Christmas Eve Eve), we had supper and presents with M's side of the family here at our place.  I wish I had taken some pictures... it was a busy day!  The girls were super excited about seeing everyone and getting Christmas started.  It was also Auntie Bethie's birthday, so we made her a cake the day before and N frosted and decorated the entire top of the cake all by herself.  Very cute!

Christmas Eve we spent a quiet morning at home with the girls and then left for a marathon of church services.  Auntie Bethie stayed with the girls for a total of eight hours while Mommy and Daddy were away at church singing.  (Aunt of the Year Award!)  The girls had a blast at home making cookies for Santa, decorating ornaments and watching Pee-Wee's Christmas.  When we returned from church, "the stockings were hung by the chimney with care"!  I really enjoyed the music and the service, but it was a very tiring day.

Christmas morning was quietly spent at home, just the five of us.  The girls even slept until 6:45-- a wonderful Christmas gift to their tired parents.  (Normally Christmas Day wake-up call is about 5 AM.)

Here's what we did Christmas morning:

Enjoying our Butter Braids from N's preschool fundraiser... delish!!

There was a dusting of snow Christmas morning... just enough to make our backyard hill slippery enough for a couple of runs.

After naps, my fam made a visit for a chowder supper and more presents for the girls.

The most scary "American Girl" ever!  :)
We are so blessed in our family.  Thanks to everyone who traveled to see us... it made our lives a bit easier to just stay in one place and have everyone come to visit!

M is on vacation this week and we are enjoying some quiet time at home.  Both bigger girls were pretty worn out from all of the holiday excitement and anticipation, and unfortunately have come down with what I think might be the flu.  L has rallied herself pretty well (we're talking about the girl who eats six clementines for breakfast every day) but I haven't seen N so sick in a while-- chills, aches, high fever, complete loss of appetite, and some tears to boot.  Poor thing.  I'm glad we've had time to just stay at home and have some good naps.  She seems to have turned a corner tonight and will hopefully continue to improve.  Little C has been fine so far-- knock on wood!  In the crazy time of moving this fall, she was the only one in our family who managed to get a flu shot.

Today we took down the tree and are settling down from all the excitement.  This Christmas thing is wonderful and magical, but it sort of wore us all out this year.  I've been thinking about ways that we might do things differently and possibly spare the girls from some of the negative effects of the season.  Some of it is unavoidable... it's "in the air" as they say.  And it's not like we hyped things up too much. Anyway....... more on that later!

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas week!
