Our "One Thing"

My friend Sarah is hosting another series over at Being SarahMarie-- it's called "The One Thing".  You can read all about it over on Sarah's blog, but the basic idea is that each day we try to accomplish one thing-- and one thing only-- from the to-do list, other than the normal everyday tasks (like laundry, dishes, getting kids dressed, changing diapers etc).  I think it's a great idea.  I've had several "no thing" days in a row, so although I'm a few days late linking up, I felt compelled to celebrate our "one thing" for today: raking leaves.

(And taking pictures and blogging about it.  So that's three things, actually.)

{Side note... I should mention that although these are everyday tasks, I did do seven loads of laundry today and washed all of the dishes that had built up since Monday morning.  Monday and Tuesday are my teaching days, and it was an especially busy week with orchestra photos, seating auditions and an extra lesson to teach.  Getting prepared for all that got me behind on housework.  I need to keep up with my resolve to (in addition to Sarah's "one thing") always get at least one load of laundry done each day.  It's really essential for me to stay on top of that task, so I'm making a public pledge here.}

On to the leaf raking...

We went outside on this glorious, crisp fall morning.

N brought along her kid-sized rake:

C even helped a bit!

L was busy with other things and didn't do much raking, but that's okay.  :)

Aunt Beth was here and did a lot of raking (thanks Aunt Beth)!

Actually, Aunt Beth did most of the raking (does it still count as "the one thing" if I had help?), while Mama took pictures of these cuties:

We had some sisterly wagon rides around the yard.

And we posed for more pictures.

And of course we had tons of fun jumping in the leaf pile.

On your mark...

Get set...

GO!!!

(Or, if you're N, you say "Get set... Get ready... On your mark... GO!")

(Or, if you're L, you say "On your market.................. GO!!!)

It was an item on our to-do list, but we sure had fun doing it!

(And then we came inside, had lunch, and ALL THREE girls fell asleep.  And so I folded those seven loads of laundry, wrote this blog post, and got supper started.  Phew!  We now have clean underwear.  Quite a productive day, actually.  Hooray!)

  1. SEVEN LOADS of laundry?! You must be superwoman. I actually have a problem with laundry -- I consider it utterly impossible to get a load washed, dried, AND folded on the same day. I can't believe you did seven!

But your leaf raking looks like much more fun... reminds me I need to get out and do some yardwork, too! :)

    1. I guess I should have mentioned that I had my sister's help for the morning, so she would occasionally switch the laundry or watch the girls while I did it. I don't know if I could have managed all of that without her around! On my own, I usually end up with laundry unfolded or not put away at the end of the day.

And all three of them napping at the same time helps, too. :) I wish I were superwoman!!
