L-isms
Some say the twos are terrible. And there are days when they really are. The ever expanding sense of self combined with lack of impulse control and inflexibility of will can be extremely frustrating for Mom and Dad (and L too!)
But really, I think the twos are wonderful most days. L is pretty much my favorite girl right now. With her, as M puts it, we have the "highest highs and the lowest lows"... but fortunately, the lows don't happen too often as long as she's well-rested, feeling good, and has had enough activity to keep her stimulated and out of trouble. It is such a source of joy and pride to watch a two-year-old delight in each new discovery, acquire independence, and learn new ways of verbally expressing her feelings and ideas.
With L it is even more joyful, because she has this zany streak that has kept us laughing since she was a baby. I've been making a list of the funny/cute things she does and says that I'd like to remember. There are so many of them that I'm sure I've forgotten some, but I'll post what I have for now.
* When we listen to Mary Poppins in the car, instead of singing the words as "A lark, a spree, it's very clear to see," L instead sings, "A lawn, a scream, it's very cute of me." (And it is cute!)
* Instead of saying the word "parade", she says "putawade"... I think because she knew the term "put away" before she learned the word "parade".
* She calls Pee-Wee Herman "Kiwi".
* To L, cars don't go "vroom", they go "woomf".
* The "Troublesome Trucks" from Thomas the Tank Engine are known by L as "Bubblesome Trucks".
* She refers to the Little Mermaid as "The Little Wormaid".
* The next time you listen to the "Under the Sea" song from The Little Mermaid, listen to how much the words sound like "I gotta see" when Sebastian sings them. I can completely understand why L calls it the "I gotta see" song.
* The letter L is still hard for L to pronounce. It usually comes out sounding like a y or a w. This makes her own name difficult for her to say, but also results in cute phrases like "I'm hungry for wunch" or "My hair is getting yonger and yonger."
* When L is confused about which cup, toy, or shoes belong to her, she asks "Is this mines?"
Some funny things she has done lately:
Sometimes after we've eaten, L will have a little burp mid-sentence, and she did so this morning at the breakfast table. She then remarked, "Mama, I did a burp talk!"
She had the following conversation with Daddy yesterday:
Daddy: I have to use the potty L; I'll be right back.
L: Okay. (thinks for a minute) Are you going to use the Thomas seat?
Such a funny little girl. We can't wait to hear the next thing that will come out of her mouth!!

She said this with a completely straight face, and then as Daddy left the room, she looked at me and grinned. She really knew she had made a good joke!
Daddy (laughs): No, I'm all set with the Thomas seat.
Today, she was playing with some chalk at the art table, and as I walked into the room she picked up a piece of chalk, broke it in half, and said, "We'd better get crackin'!"

that Mary Poppins story is the greatest! I often laugh when I look back and realize that what I thought were lyrics of songs when I was little, weren't actually correct at all. What's perhaps strangest is that I would happily sing nonsensical things, and never wonder if what I mistakenly thought were the words actually made any sense at all...
