C is 9 Months!
C had her 9-month checkup last week. It was our first checkup with our new pediatrician in our new town. I really like her so far! The part that impressed me the most was the nurse that gave the shots. She talked to C reassuringly while she did it, and gently slid the needle in (rather than jamming it violently into her leg like some other nurses we've encountered). C didn't cry at all-- I don't think she even noticed.
Here are the stats:
Weight: 16 lbs, 12 oz (25th percentile)
Length: 28.5 inches (80th percentile)
And here are C's current "favorites"!
Favorite Foods:
Baby food favorites: Applesauce, Bananas, Mangos, Pears
Biter Biscuits
Gerber Lil' Crunchies and Puffs (although these are expensive, and since big sisters love them too and often eat them all up, I try to avoid buying them)
Hummus (this gets pretty messy!)
We've had a really slow start to solids with C. It took several months before she would eat more than 3 or 4 bites of any baby food, and vegetables of any kind are still met with a mouth clamped shut. It is only in the past month that she will finish off an entire jar of pureed food, and it has to be a fruit. In the past week or two, however, she has shown great interest in whatever Mommy, Daddy or sisters are eating. For the past couple of days, during meals, she will eat a few bites of whatever "baby" food I am giving her, and then she will look straight at my food, kick her legs excitedly and say "Mmmm! Mmmm! Mmmm!" So now we're giving her little bits of whatever we're eating, as long as it's soft enough. Today she mowed on a piece of bread while we were having our sandwiches, and ate half of sisters' pasta at supper time. She has also even enjoyed some vegetables in this manner-- little bits of cooked carrots, celery, and potato from my soups. Anything she can pick up and feed to herself is usually devoured.
She is now noticeably hungry--or at least very interested in eating--at meal times (and not as much at the normal nursing times). Sometimes, if I'm carrying her when I go to the food cabinet to get something out for a meal, she'll say "Mmmmmmmm!" when I open the door.
Favorite Movies/TV Shows:
C isn't much interested in TV, except for one show. Whenever big sisters are watching "Curious George Visits the Hospital" she is glued to it. I think she likes the stop action puppet-like characters.
Favorite Toys:
*She squeals with delight whenever she sees our plush Ernie doll and crawls right over to play with him. All of our girls loved that doll at this age.
*She loves the little Precious Moments angel doll that we got from Grammie back when I was pregnant with N. I always hope that Grammie is watching from above as C grins from ear to ear every time we squeeze the doll for her and it says the prayer.
*She LOVES the Little People School Bus that L got for Easter last year. This is the first toy that I've seen L and C fight over (so far, at least)! You wouldn't think that sweet little C would have it in her to fight for a toy, but she sure does love that bus.
Favorite Books:
Goodnight Moon
Panda Bear Panda Bear
(We've only just started reading C bedtime stories. Most nights she is too exhausted to handle sitting through a book. But when she is in the mood, she loves to turn the pages for me-- this is more interesting than the story, I think. At other times of day when she is not so tired, she loves listening any story that we're reading with big sisters.)
Favorite Songs:
Anything! Her face is glued to anybody while they are singing.
She has just learned Patty Cake (see milestones below)
Open Shut Them
Recent Milestones:
Crawling (last week! Mama is still learning not to leave choking hazards on the floor!)
Clapping hands (yesterday-- SOO cute!!)
She got two new teeth on the top this week-- a total of 4 so far.
Words so far: Mama, Dada, Hi!, Mmmmmm
Lastly, here is a video of C that you can compare to the video of L at 9 months-- wearing the same pj's!
We love ya, little C!
