Best Birthday Moment

Today is my thirty-first birthday.

Yeah, I'm feelin' a little old.

But this moment makes up for it.

I was laying in bed this afternoon, snoozing/cuddling/nursing C after a long morning at church.  L was napping.  Suddenly, N and Daddy burst through the door (they had been away on a mystery errand).

N ran into my bedroom with a beautiful bouquet of pink carnations and gave it to me with a grin.

She ran back to Daddy, who was peeking in at me from the bedroom door.

Daddy: *whispers* Go give Mommy a hug!
N: (runs back and gives me a gigantic hug and kiss)
Daddy: *whispers* Say "Happy Birthday Mama"!
N: Happy Birthday Mama! (grinning)
Mama: Thank you!!  Thank you so much honey!!

They disappear for a moment.

N: (bursts back through the door and hands me my favorite:  a hazelnut iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts)
Mama: ooooohhh, thank you!!!  you know what I like!! (winking at Daddy)
N: (runs back to Daddy at the bedroom door)
Daddy: *whispers* Tell her we have something else for her too.
N: Mama, we have... we have... some marshmallows too.
Daddy: *laughs* *whispers* We have something else for her.
N: We have something else for you, Mama!
Daddy: *whispers* Let's go make the cake!
N: WE'RE GOING TO MAKE A CAKE!!
Mama: Ohhhh, I can't wait!! *laughing*
C: *laughing* Mama bwabwabwabwa!  *waving*

It's the little things, I tell ya.

Later on, I was surprised to find out that they really did have marshmallows for me.  I thought that N had just misheard her Daddy, but she was telling the truth:

Apparently, it was N's idea to make me a ghost cake!  What a thoughtful girl.

And all three girls enjoyed a piece.

Birthday flowers in the background!
What a lucky Mama I am!!

  1. I can't imagine a better way to celebrate! So glad to see those frosting-covered smiles, which must mean the girls are feeling better. Happy birthday, sis!
