C's 6-Month Checkup

I'm behind on my checkup blogging, so you're getting them all at once!  Perhaps it's not exciting reading for you, but I love having a record of these things (other than a piece of paper that will get lost in our house somewhere), so bear with me.

I took C to her 6-month checkup last Friday.  She was very cordial to the doctors and nurses, except when I laid her down on the table for the doctor's examination-- she was none too pleased with the poking and prodding.  I think this was due to her newfound stranger anxiety combined with the fact that we were smack dab in the middle of her usual morning nap time.

Her shots were very sad for Mama, as usual, but she only cried for about 2 minutes and then got over it.  Quite brave, really.

Stats:

Height: 27 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 15 pounds, 4 ounces (30th percentile)

The doctor didn't give me the typical checklist of milestones (perhaps because C aced the milestones checklist at her four-month checkup?-- or so my Mama's pride would have me think!), so I don't have them to share here.  But I can share some of her current activities and favorites.

* In the past three weeks or so, she has become much more interested in rolling.  She is just starting to understand that she can use this as a method of getting herself closer to the toys she wants.  The beginnings of mobility!

* She is very interested in faces.  I've mentioned before that she gives people the stare-down quite often, but now she uses her hands to explore people's faces-- patting and grabbing your mouth, chin, nose, etc.  This means if we don't keep her fingernails clipped, we all end up with scratched cheeks!!  She is especially fond of Daddy's beard and he gets a special chin-grab every day when he gets home from work.

* Her core strength is quite impressive-- her favorite activities are standing (assisted, of course) or crunching her abdominals to lift up her head while laying down.  In fact, she routinely lets me know she is done nursing by using her core to lift up her head from a sideways position, or by simply doing a push-up off my lap and rapidly turning her head (yes... ouch).

* I mentioned that I had started her on solid foods-- she is still not wild about them.  She seems to enjoy bananas, but she doesn't gobble them up by any means.  So, we continue to have her sit at the table with us, and I give her baby food from time to time, but I'm not rushing it.  It won't be long before she can take mashed up bits of what we're eating, which will be much easier for me than fixing her a separate bowl of something, and more her style I think.

* Her favorite toys are this and this.

* She has just discovered the game of "If I drop a toy, Mommy or Daddy or sisters will pick it up for me."  She definitely drops things on purpose.  Repeatedly.

* She is my first tummy sleeper... nowadays, despite the fact that I always put her to sleep on her back, if I check later I usually find her sleeping on her tummy, or at least on her side (with her ankles crossed in a very ladylike slumber).

* She is teething like mad!  We'll see if she beats her big sisters and gets a tooth before 9 months of age.

* She is more fond than ever of her sisters.  She lights up with excitement when they enter the room, and she misses them lots when they are not around.

... and we are all so fond of her, too.  In fact, I'm hoping that she'll stop growing up, and stay the delightful little 6-month-old that she is for just a little longer.  Please, C?

Love that girl!
