Last Week...
* We found our toes.
* We snuggled. (These two are real kindred spirits, I can tell already.)
*We got ready to have a yard sale and Mama's studio recital for my violin students, all in one weekend. It was a LOT of work. Maybe next time I won't plan those two things in the same weekend! I ignored the girls quite a bit to do all my last-minute scheduling/emailing, recital venue- and snacks-planning, yard sale sorting projects, pricing, and sign-making and hanging.
(At one point the girls were watching Mary Poppins while I worked on some project, and I overheard Bert singing "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone while childhood slips like sand through a sieve... and all too soon they've up and grown, and then they've flown, and it's too late for you to give just that spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down..." I actually teared up a little-- blame exhaustion from a busy week and guilt feelings about neglecting my children!)
*We made cookies on a rainy day.
* The girls helped add a few ingredients to the real cookies, and then made their own cookies:
(and served Mama a steak:)
(and then a pickle:)
(and then made a stepping-stone path out of gladware lids:)
* We did some potty training with L. This girl totally gets it. She tells me when she has to go (most of the time before she has already gone). She can hold it long enough (usually) to get to the potty. She is more than willing to sit on the potty. The only trouble is getting our busy little girl to sit long enough to complete the deed. Our usual exchange goes like this:
L: Mama, I have to go potty!
Mama: Okay, let's sit on the potty and try! (whisks her over to the potty and sits her down)
L (.025 seconds later): All done! (gets up and runs off to the next activity)
Mama: Let's sit a little longer and see if you can do peeps.
L (sits on the potty, gives a little grunt, toots, grins, gets up again): I did peeps!
Yesterday we went diaper free all morning and she peed on the potty twice. YAY!!
*The thought of having just one child in diapers has me giddy with anticipation.
*I started being able to put C down in her crib awake when it's time for a nap, and she puts herself to sleep. No rocking, shushing, or bouncing needed. This is SO helpful when I've got two other little ones running around. It takes me about 30 seconds to get her down for a nap. I'm so thankful for her easy personality.
*I read this article, written by one of my favorite blog authors. It said everything I have been thinking for the past five months. Any mommy who has three kids or more (or is even thinking about having three) should read it.
*M said to me, "When C looks at you, it just... well... makes you feel better about yourself." He really hit the nail on the head. She gives you the stare-down, but in a good way. In a wonderful way. It's like she's looking into your soul or something. Don't know how to describe it. (I know I've been gushing a lot about this baby, but I can't help it. She has brought us all so much joy!)
What an eventful week! Looking forward to the next...

| Don't worry, I don't put C's Bumbo up on the table unless I'm standing right next to her. In fact, that thing went in the yard sale... our little muscle-woman liked to arch her back and try to flip out of it. Seriously dangerous. M has never trusted this seat! I think they're just made with shorter babies in mind. |
