C is 4 months!
C had her 4-month checkup on Thursday. These have definitely been the fastest four months of my life-- maybe it's because she's the third child, or maybe because it's a busier time of year, or because I went back to work more quickly after baby. Whatever the reason, this one is growing up SO quickly! She is turning into such a delightful little person.
Here are her stats:
Height: 28 inches (100th percentile)
Weight: 13 pounds, 3 ounces (34th percentile)
Head circumference: 16.5 inches (50th percentile)
Our pediatrician had something new for this visit: she gave me a checklist to fill out while we were in the waiting room. It was a list of milestones and I was supposed to check off the ones that C had met. This made the visit a little quicker since the doctor didn't have to ask me millions of questions while I was trying to nurse and/or handle my other children. And it also makes it easier to talk about C's development here on the blog!
Here are the milestones C has met:
Social/Emotional:
*Smiles spontaneously, especially at people
*Likes to play with people and might cry when playing stops
*Copies some movements and facial expressions, like smiling or frowning
Language/Communication:
*Begins to babble
*Babbles with expression and copies sounds she hears
*Cries in different ways to show hunger, pain, or being tired
Cognitive (learning, thinking, problem-solving)
*Lets you know if she is happy or sad
*Responds to affection
*Reaches for a toy with one hand (C actually uses both hands)
*Uses hands and eyes together, such as seeing a toy and reaching for it
*Follows moving things with eyes from side to side
*Watches faces closely
*Recognizes familiar people and things at a distance
Movement/Physical Development
*Holds head steady, unsupported
*Pushes down on legs when feet are on a hard surface
*Rolls over from tummy to back (she did this for the first time yesterday!)
*Can hold a toy and shake it, and swings at dangling toys
*Brings hands to mouth
*When lying on stomach, pushes up to elbows
When we came in to the exam room, I had every single box on the checklist checked off, and our pediatrician said that it's unusual to see that. So C is really rocking the milestones!! I think it really helps having big sisters around to show her how it's done.
The doctor also commented for the second time (she said the same at the 2-month visit) that C's muscle tone and strength are exceptional for her age. I replied that I could have guessed that when she was beating me up from within the womb for 9 months! She was definitely my strongest baby in utero.
C is sleeping quite well for us these days. She had a couple of weeks around the 4-month mark where she was getting up twice a night to nurse, but I think that was just a growth spurt. Now she's back to going to bed around 7:30 and not waking up until 4 or 5 to eat. Then she usually goes back to sleep until 7:30 or 8, which is SO helpful because I can get the other girls ready for the day before C is even awake. Pretty remarkable, really, for a baby her age. I'm counting my blessings!
I also have to mention that L was very good for the visit (N was at preschool). It's always fun to see how quickly the older siblings grow up from one doctor's visit to the next. A couple of months can make a big difference in attention span and sitting through a doctor's visit without getting into trouble. We brought L's Fischer Price doctor kit and she listened to Mommy's heart and C's heart while we waited for the doctor, and happily munched on strawberries while the doctor examined C. She was busy playing with something else and didn't even notice the nurse giving C her shots, which bodes well for her 2-year checkup next month (hopefully!!) We had talked before the visit about how it was important for L to listen to Mommy at the doctor, and she performed quite well-- she was a great listener and very obedient. Yay L!
I really can't say enough about how much we are all in love with this baby. Even L, who had the toughest adjustment when we brought C home, is now actively playing with her and gets upset whenever C is upset. I would love for her to stay this age forever, because it's a delightful age and she's such a delightful baby! She has brought us so much joy, and I thank the Lord for giving us such a precious gift.

P.S. Do you remember back when L was four months old? It really is a great age!!
