Whoa, sorry for that last post. Totally random. It just goes to show that I have a ton of blog ideas in my head, and limited time and energy to post them, so I just squeezed a whole bunch of them into that last post. As time draws nearer for the new baby, it's likely that there will be more posts that way-- me trying to get everything out of my head in the form of one big crazy ramble. So bear with me.
I thought I would re-visit the haircuts that I gave the girls on back on Halloween day, and show you some pictures. You've probably noticed N's shorter style in some of the pictures I've posted since Halloween. This was a pretty significant cut for her, since it was the first time since her birth that we had cut anything except her bangs.
I'd been meaning to have haircuts for both girls, and we had the free time last Monday morning. I started researching the price of kids' haircuts and gradually I decided that it seemed silly to spend that much money on something I could probably do myself. N was excited about the idea of playing barbershop, so we set up a little station in our kitchen and went to work.
L was the guinea pig. I just cut her bangs, which marked her
second haircut of life. She was extremely wiggly, so I didn't really get them straight. It's a good thing that, at 17 months, you look adorable no matter what.

N's haircut turned out much shorter than I intended. It was wet, so I cut it just below the shoulders, not thinking about the fact that it would curl up when it dried and actually look much shorter. I'm sure you've heard about parents that cry when their children have their first haircut. Imagine how much more difficult it is when you're the one doing the cutting! It was hard not to be sad when I saw this on the floor:
Truth be told, N cried when she first saw the finished product. Her reaction was, "It's too short, and I want to look like
Julie!" (Julie is one of the American Girl Dolls.) Thinking fast, I told her she looked just like
Kit... and from that moment on, she has loved her new haircut.

Overall, I'm quite happy with it. It looks cute, and it's SO much quicker and easier to brush, which was my main object in cutting it. N can't really stand to have her hair brushed, and combing her long hair basically amounted to 15-20 minutes of torture every morning. Again, it's not exactly straight, and professional stylists would probably be appalled, but her curly hair is forgiving. And there will be plenty of time for expensive haircuts when she gets to be a teenager.
That's all for now. There are more ideas and updates in my head, but for your sake and mine I will save those for another day!
P.S. Happy
Nigel Tufnel Day! Heheh.
