First Trip to the Dentist
We've had an eventful weekend, and there's plenty to blog about Mother's Day, but since I'm low on energy and time tonight I'll just cover N's first trip to the dentist, which happened earlier today, and was just about the cutest thing I've ever seen.
A few weeks back when M had his teeth cleaned the girls and I picked him up and had to wait in the waiting room for a few minutes while he was finishing up. N was fascinated, first of all with all the toys in the waiting room, but also with a big teddy bear they have on display sitting in a dentist's chair. I explained to her that Daddy was having his teeth checked just like the bear, and she kept asking when it would be her turn to see the dentist and have her teeth checked. So, a couple days later when I was in for my cleaning, I made her an appointment and asked if we could try a short checkup with her, just to see how she would do. To be honest, I wasn't really sure how she would react to actually having her teeth cleaned, given the fact that she's skittish about lots of things these days.
This morning, when I told her it was time to go to the dentist, she excitedly got in the car. Her excitement lasted as we waited in the waiting room, and she kept asking when it would be her turn. The hygienist came out and N immediately struck up a conversation with her, following her happily into the exam room. The hygienist assured me that we would start slowly, and only go as far into the full cleaning as N felt comfortable. Well... we needn't have worried. Every request made by the hygienist was met with a happy "Sure!" or "Okay!" from N. We made it through the entire cleaning, and even when it was finished N was reluctant to get out of the chair. The hygienist commented that she had never had a patient so young do so well, especially with the post-cleaning rinse. I guess that nasty little habit that N has of drinking from her cup and then spitting it out has come in handy somewhere.
Actually, I began to realize as the cleaning went on that N was absolutely thrilled and fascinated with everything that was going on. My theory was confirmed when we got home and she played "dentist" with me for the next hour. Perhaps we have a future dentist on our hands?

The hygienist gave her sunglasses to keep the bright light out of her eyes, which of course she thought was awesome. Other favorites were the "bib" they gave her to wear, and the sink with the "blue cup." These were the items that were most talked about on the ride home.
We're already looking forward to our next appointment!

I was smiling as I was reading this blog post. Too cute. I think she'd make a great dentist.
