9 Month Checkup

Today L had her 9-month checkup, and despite being slightly sick at the time of her appointment, they passed her with flying colors!  (She's had a high fever, some tummy trouble, and extreme sleepiness in the past two days, but she has been her usual happy self through it all!)

She is in the 50th percentile for weight (18 pounds, 8 ounces), and "off the charts" for height (30 inches... only 5 inches shorter than N).  She's met all the milestones that a normal 9-month-old should, and she's eating like a horse.  The best part about the 9 month checkup is... no shots!!

I also realized how much N has grown up in the last three months... the last time I took them both to the doctor was at L's 6-month checkup, and N was running all around the room the whole time getting into everything.  Today she sat in the chair contentedly and colored a picture.

I thought a post discussing L's 9-month checkup would be a good time to talk about all the cool things she's been doing lately.

The following video that I took on Tuesday evening gives you a pretty good idea of her current mobility level:

She can go from laying down to sitting up, sitting up to crawl position, and vice versa.  She can crawl for a few steps and then she usually gets down on her belly and does the "commando crawl" toward whatever she wants.  Each day she increases her distance with the all-fours crawl.  Of course, there's still the old favorite "log roll" which can get her across the room pretty quickly too.  She's been doing that one since about 6 months.  We had to move the crib mattress down recently because she's usually sitting up now when we come in to get her in the morning.  I'm sure it will be a matter of weeks before she's using those crib bars to pull up and stand.

The above video is also a good example of her current babbles.  Almost everything she says sounds like "goida goida goida" due to this little tongue flicking action that she loves to do.  Although "goida" is her favorite word, she can also say "Mama" and "Dada" and usually uses them appropriately.

She's developing a wonderful and adorable sense of humor.  You can see her chuckle in the above video, but she's been doing that for a while.  Lately she will pull off any hat I try to put on and play peek-a-boo with it.  Sometimes she'll play peek-a-boo with her own hands too.  She seems to sense when she's done something funny, because she will cock her head and grin as if to say, "I'm so adorable and hilarious!"

Along with that sense of humor she's developing some pretty mad dance skills.  She displayed a few of them in this video, but quickly got distracted by her sock:

I think that about covers it!  In summary, L is about as much fun as she can be right now and we all love her to bits.  I can't wait to see all the new skills and personality that are yet to come!
