Sweet Moments
While I'm waiting for my stew broth to come to a boil, I thought I'd write a quick blog post before some of the moments that have happened this week leave my head. Then it's off to the elliptical machine! (Yes, I've been very faithful to my workouts this week... my husband can attest to my honesty.)
N and I have been having quite a few discussions lately about the fact that Mama is tall and N is little. One day I was trying to squeeze in a workout by having N do pilates with me. She actually loves it, and does most of the moves quite nimbly. I need to get this girl enrolled in some gymnastics. Anyway, as we were doing one stretch together, the instructor on the video kept saying, "Stretch and reach... now sit up tall." After a few repetitions of that phrase, N commented, "Mama, I can't sit up tall. I sit up little."
When it's time for bed, we give N a 5-minute warning and set the timer on our kitchen stove. Usually there is a bit of stalling when the timer goes off, but she's pretty good about getting herself up to bed most days. On Tuesday night N was in the middle of writing some Valentines to her friends when the timer went off. To our amazement, she heard the timer, dropped her pen, took one last drink from her sippy cup, found her blanky and started up the stairs, all without saying a word. Daddy had to follow her. She's really been pretty great about following the rules lately. I don't count on that happening every week, but it's pretty cute when it happens and, of course, very rewarding.
L has also started returning kisses and hugs lately. The other day I was carrying her through the drugstore, and I gave her a little kiss on those kissable cheeks. She leaned in and pressed her forehead against my cheek for a moment, and then smiled at me. It doesn't take much to make a mother's heart melt!!
Lastly, here's a photo of N trying out some "Prince Leia braids." (Ever since our Yoda party, she has been interested in Princess Leia and her many beautiful hair styles. I don't know why, but it always comes out "Prince Leia"... haha)
