Today we got "walloped," as they say on the news, with a crazy blizzard. I'm not sure if it has been officially categorized as a blizzard, but we certainly got enough snow to merit the title. We got a total of about 16-17 inches... and it's still snowing as I write this. M got the day off (thank goodness-- I never could have managed digging us out on my own!) and we enjoyed some nice family time. Today I'm lucky to have a husband who teaches school for a living instead of plowing roads.
N and I ventured out this morning. I suggested to N that we have a snack before we went outside, and I think she thought I was saying we should
have our snack outside, because she said "Mama, our snack will freeze, and then blow away."
It was pretty windy and the snow was coming down pretty heavily, so we didn't stay out long. We took a quick walk to the dumpster to take the trash out, and made some snow angels and a small snowman. N endured the cold and wind quite bravely until she lost her mitten trying to climb up a snowbank, and stuck her bare hand into a pile of cold snow. It was then that she said, "Maybe we can go inside?" Here are the pictures I took:
 |
| Bundled up and ready to go out |
 |
| Our sled, standing upright on our sidewalk, was half buried |
 |
| The cars in our lot as of about 10 AM. We probably got at least 6 additional inches after this picture was taken. |
 |
| I made a little "seat" for N in the snowbank and she gladly posed for a picture. |

| Our winter wonderland |

| L was happy to stay inside and roll around on her blanket |
Speaking of L, I should mention that she is basically a mobile baby now. She is not crawling, but she has definitely entered the you-have-to-watch-her-like-a-hawk phase. She can roll back to tummy, tummy to back, and make it all the way across the room quite quickly. She can also pivot 180 degrees on her tummy, so she can pretty much get whatever object she wants on the floor. I have to figure out a way to get N not to leave her choking hazard toys out on the floor. Perhaps we'll have to put those away for a few months. Cooking dinner has also become quite difficult. L is not happy to just sit like a lump in a chair or bouncer anymore, but if she's free on the floor I have to really watch her. This morning while I was making breakfast she somehow found one of those little postcards that fall out of magazines, and mouthed it until a piece of it came off and she gagged on it. Scary. N only crawled for a month before she learned to walk, so this is all a little new to me.
Wow! They grow up fast.
