We interrupt our regularly scheduled blogging...
...to introduce you to the newest member of the Sugar and Spice family.
This sweet boy is 7 months old and is partially blind. He caught the girls' eye as they have been volunteering at the rabbit shelter, and L requested to try bonding him with Jem, our boy for the last two years. The new bun was born in the shelter and named Black Bean, but since having him home we have been calling him Geordi, which I simply love since you all know I'm a Trekkie.
Bonding two bunnies is hard work, and although their first date at the shelter went really well...
...there have been a lot of emotional ups and downs since we got them both home. Google "rabbit bonding" if you don't know much about it. Even the girls who had really done their homework and knew what to expect have been pretty worn down by these last three days since we brought our new little guy home.
I am having a lot of flashbacks and telling them this is good practice for being a new parent!! A lot of learning is taking place about patience, perseverance, not being afraid of trying new things, rising above setbacks etc. All of the girls are doing so great and I'm very proud of them.
However, I'm also pretty emotionally exhausted right now, as M has been away on business since Saturday and so I have been the Captain steering the bunny-bonding ship. I think we have some plans in place now and the girls will gradually get more independent with it. But my Mama heart also wants to give them a shoulder to cry on as needed!
Anyway, wish us luck with the process. We love our little Geordi already and hope that he and Jem will learn to be great friends! I'll keep you updated!
That's all for tonight-- see you next week :)
