Swim, Facebook Finds and DIYs

Here’s a post I started back on July 23. Enjoy some ramblings about things we were doing then…

 Good morning everyone!

We are back from our travels and summer is chugging along here. Right now I’m at swim lessons with the girls which is happening every morning for the next two weeks. They are also doing summer gymnastics and dance classes on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  I'm feeling really great about them having some things to do away from home; it's a refreshing change for us all.

We had SO much fun on our camping trip, and although we did a lot of the same things we did last year, it's worth a recap, at least in photos.  Hopefully I can share those memories soon, but right now things are busy busy with preparing for some visitors in the next few months.  As I have mentioned here before, our old house was roughly 1000 square feet and the new one is close to 3000.  So all the rooms are really empty and echo-ey and there's no place to sit!  Things were busy when we first moved in, finishing up work and homeschool, but now that our trip is over M and I are diving right in to furnishing our house on the cheap (thank you very much, Facebook Marketplace!)

Here are some of our finds this week:

Two like-new sofas with pull-out beds.  Right now we are keeping one in our main living room, and one in the study/office.  I'm very excited that we will have capabilities for hosting people, after barely being able to fit just our own girls in our house before!  These two sofas cost us a total of $180.  Not too bad!

I got this area rug for our dining room on the cheap at Ocean State Job Lot (love that place!).  We're searching for a second-hand table to match the color theme of the room a little better.  I'm hoping for something white, or like a light grey.  It's a work in progress!

Earlier today we picked up another large desk for our study, a vintage open-top school desk for J, two coffee tables, an office chair for N, and a cool kitchen-helper wooden step stool, all for a total of $140.  Tonight we're off to pick up a free treadmill, since the free treadmill we got about five years ago has bit the dust.  Along with the free treadmill the owner is giving us a couple of yoga balls, resistance bands, and a set of dumbbells.  Along with the free weight bench we got from a neighbor when we moved in, we're acquiring quite the home gym (for free!).  Have I posted a picture of our home gym setup here yet?  I'll try to take one once we have the new equipment in place.  Super exciting!!

Two new-to-me blogs I have been enjoying lately are Kathryn's and Kallie's (and their YouTube channels and Instagram).  I have been loving all the Dollar Tree life hacks— probably a little late to that party, but they clued me in to the fact that Dollar Tree sells contact paper!

I needed some storage for towels and linens in our guest bathroom. For the low price of $1 I was able to re-purpose our old arts and crafts table with graffiti all over it

(Before)

…and along with a little elbow grease to get some paint stains off the legs and shelves, it turned into a pretty nice looking little bathroom caddy.

Super satisfying, and it took me only about 20 minutes of work. And a dollar.

This is what I feel I have been lacking lately— the energy and headspace and creativity to come up with little easy solutions like this. But with the help of some YouTubers and a husband who is home for the summer… we’re getting there.

More pictures of home updates forthcoming!
