Quick Check-In
I have just a couple of minutes before the end of the girls' dance class, so quickly sharing a few photos and updates will be it for today.
A rainy deluge on Monday created this wonderful lake of a puddle in our front yard, and the girls played out it it for almost two hours! Who says you can't get exercise outside on a rainy day??
Golden Milk has been my jam this week. The healing properties are for realz. I did an excruciating abs workout the other morning such that my stomach muscles were seizing and cramping by the end and I was sure that I would be soooo sore and unable to even sit up the next day. But I made a cup of this magic juice after my workout and guess what? Zero soreness the next day. You must try. And it's so yummy and comforting too. My recipe is 1 can full fat coconut milk (you need some fat in your diet or your body can't process your vitamins), 1 1/2 cups soy milk, 2 tablespoons fresh grated turmeric, 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger, 1 tablespoon maple syrup or other sweetener, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder. I just put all the ingredients in a pot on the stove, simmer for 10-15 minutes until the milk turns golden, then strain out the larger chunks of root and drink up! You can sub about a teaspoon of turmeric powder or 1/2 teaspoon of ginger powder if you don't have the fresh roots on hand, but the healing power of the fresh root is stronger, and I just happened to buy a dump truck load of it the last time I was at the grocery store so I'll be set for a while. This recipe makes about two adult-size cups so I usually share with a girl or M if he's around. Highly recommend!!
Ice cream also made a return to our kitchen this week. Our local joint, the only one close by that's open year round, has a plethora of wonderful Thanksgiving flavors right now, such as cranberry sage, sweet potato marshmallow, and sweet corn. I can't say I was adventurous enough to try those, but our seasonal fall favorites that you see pictured above, pumpkin hydrox and gingersnap molasses, are pretty much the best thing ever, second only to my favorite flavor of all time. And they only come around once a year so all the more reason to consume as much as we possibly can before the season is over. Yes, it's strange to eat ice cream when it's in the 30's outside. But let me just tell you that those pints lasted a mere matter of minutes. #sorrynotsorry
This little girl has been making repeat appearances in my bed this week... not sure if it's excitement over the upcoming holidays, something scary she read or saw in a movie, or just a growth spurt, but I have my usual love/hate relationship with her snuggles. I know that if I don't return her to her bed, we will both sleep poorly and be grumpy the next day, but at the same time the feel of her almost-baby body and sweet soft hair next to me is pretty nice. I have had my share of grumpy moments with the girls this week as a result, but I'll take these snuggles while they last, because she is growing up pretty fast.
That's all I have time for! Hoping you all have a blessed Thanksgiving :)
