Weekend productivity and meal plan

Good morning, everyone!

We had such a wonderful, productive weekend.  It was sort of rainy and gray here (also very humid and sultry) so we had some indoor time with air conditioners running.  I got the baby's room all set to go!

C was a good little helper, especially with organizing the bookshelf!  Do you like our new pink Dronas?  We are big fans of the Ikea Kallax system lately!)

I wish I had some before pictures because this room was a complete mess before this.  It had become a dumping ground for bins of extra baby clothes as I organized the rest of the house, lots of the bigger girls toys and trinkets, tons of books and baby supplies that just weren't at all organized.  It took a full day to get things cleaned up.  M set up the crib and the rocker, and I got the girls' toys put away into the organized bins in their new room downstairs, washed and folded the baby clothes and put the appropriate sizes out while storing away the bigger sizes, went through all of our books and got rid of about half the ones that were ripped or scribbled in or we just don't read too much anymore, and got various baby supplies organized in accessible places.  Vacuuming, dusting, and voila!  We are ready for a little girl.

I was also able to re-organize our kitchen a little so that plates, cups and silverware are in the lower cabinets within the girls' reach.

Other more dangerous kitchen appliances like blenders and food processors are up high and away from little curious crawling babies that will soon be around.  (C was never really one of those babies that got into stuff much, so I had the luxury of putting things wherever back when we moved in here.)  This simple shift means that the girls can now unload the dishwasher for me and put everything away without standing precariously on a chair... the older two are totally willing to help with that chore and it's really great that now they can do it without putting themselves in danger!  (Yes, we do fill and run our dishwasher on a daily basis-- dishes are a task that takes up a huge amount of time for me if I don't have help!)  This is going to be such a help and I'm really glad it's done.

I also did a little bit of food prep for the week-- I put tons of overnight oats in jars for the week for me and M.  I have just been grabbing a bowl of cereal in the mornings lately because I have been so tired after restless nights of sleep, and I'm trying to help myself get a little more protein and nutrition to start the day by anticipating my laziness and prepping ahead on the weekend.  I also made us lots of smoothies for the week.  We bought the stuff to make bulk pancake mix into which I'll be adding some healthy ingredients (flax, chia, soy or buckwheat flour for extra protein) so the girls can have some quick healthy breakfasts too.  I have enough ingredients to make mixes to last us through the baby's birth.  N has really enjoyed making pancakes lately and I think it's something she'll be able to do independently (or with minimal help) pretty soon.  So that's awesome!

So that's our weekend recap!  I feel like these items were the last big ones on my home organization to-do list before baby.  There are definitely other things that could get done, but everything that is absolutely essential to baby coming home and our homeschool running efficiently is now complete.  That feels great!!
