What we did Saturday
Did I mention that we have two large apple trees in our yard? And they're real apple trees... not crabapples as we originally suspected.
So we spent Saturday picking up rotten dropped apples and hauling them to the woods. It was fun!
(Look at all those beeeeautiful apples that are about 30 feet in the air and we have no hope of ever picking them. Our best shot is catching some soon after they drop.)
These girls were amazingly helpful raking
finding caterpillars in the grass
finding all the "TEENSY ones" as Miss C called them
and loading them up in to the wagon to be hauled away.
(If only we had a cider press we could have made a killing with those drops.)
I picked a reachable apple for C
...and she paused for an apple break under the clothesline.
Daddy set up the stepladder and with his reach plus a rake handle we managed to get about 10 pounds of apples. They have been delicious for eating and made an even more delicious pie.
I had a moment of tightwad satisfaction in knowing that we were lucky enough to do our apple picking in our own backyard this year, without having to spend $30 or more at an orchard.
And we did it all to the tune of the "Ohhhhhhh I love pickin' apples" song:
A great day.
