Race Day Photos
We awoke to find a trail of Andes Mints from N's leprechaun trap to our front window, where he must have escaped. (The "leprechaun" couldn't find gold coins at the grocery store, unfortunately.)

The girls tooted their horn
and clapped
and napped
and chatted with our dear friends who watched them while Mommy & Daddy ran

Post-race photo with our medals, L, and our good friend who invited us to join him in running this super fun race!
(L got the biggest kick out of the fact that we got medals. She keeps asking if she can look at them and saying, "Nice medals, guys!")
I hope to write an official "race recap" soon, because there are plenty of things I want to remember about my first half marathon... but right now I must sleep. So. very. tired.
Good night!

Half marathon?! Wow...I'm still trying to get up to 10k... any tips?
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you... my longest distance was about 5 1/2 miles up until a year ago. I could write a whole post with tips (haha... maybe I will sometime!) but I guess the main thing is just to work up to it gradually. I just added like 1/2 mile to my distance every 2-3 weeks. I'm no expert, but I've read that your body does better with the adjustment if it's not all at once. Plus it's easier for the "mental game" too. Also re-fueling after 1 hour of running was really important for me... I just brought along some trail mix or crackers on my longer runs. And a little water bottle... a few sips every couple of miles makes a difference. Fanny packs can be useful!! :)
DeleteGood for you for keeping up with the running!! Yay!!
Thanks! The longest distance I've run as of now is 3.5 miles. I think I'll just stick to my 2-3 mile distances for now and then work up to 4 or 4.5 over the next few months. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a totally awesome and reachable goal. You go girl!! :)
DeleteGreat photos! Thanks for sharing! It was such an exciting day! And I am honored we were there to be apart of such a big personal accomplishment! Way to go Abby! :) You and M rocked it that day!
