A Bookmark
Lately, we've been reading "Little House in the Big Woods" with N.
She's just getting to the age where she has the attention span for a chapter book (lots of words and very few pictures). But this one seems to be particularly enthralling for her, since she and Laura have a lot in common-- cozying up in a little house with homemaker Ma, bearded, laughing Pa and two sisters (one of whom is a baby) through a long winter.
N has seen Mommy and Daddy using bookmarks to mark our places in our own novels, but having never really encountered a chapter book herself before, she had no bookmark of her own. After she and Daddy finished the first chapter a few weeks ago, she insisted on making her own bookmark, so that "we wouldn't lose our place".
She carefully cut out a square of paper and wrote on it "N's Bookmark".
And, just in case you forgot the book for which this bookmark was made, on the reverse side she will remind you:
Both Daddy and I have had a lot of fun cozying up with our own little girl and enjoying this book through a long winter.

Okay, seriously I'm starting to think we're leading parallel parenting lives. We've been reading LHITBW lately, too!
