A Monumental Week

It has been quite the week for our family.

First of all, remember way back in this post when I complained of being "off my game" and "in a fog"?  Well, those feelings have continued on different levels since then.  Do you suppose this could be the reason?

Can you see a little hand waving hello?

That's right-- an ultrasound on Wednesday confirmed it.  We'll be a family of five starting January 8.   This news took us completely by surprise.  Both M and I have been feeling a mixture of emotions since we found out.  Of course we can't help but be joyful over a new life; our main worry is simply having enough money, and the security of M's job.  But when we saw the little guy/gal on the ultrasound screen, it was love at first sight.  It's a pretty amazing thing to see that tiny heart beating and those little legs kicking.  And this baby will have two of the best older sisters in the world.  I'm just loving the girls at their current ages, and when I'm not being grouchy at them because I'm tired or hungry, we're in a really happy "rhythm" these days.  They really are the best little girls and I'm so thankful for that.  I'm thrilled at the prospect at having another child as wonderful as they are.

In other (slightly less earth-shattering) news, we spent a few days at my parents' house early last week while they were paving the parking lot here at our apartment building.  It was a really nice rest for all of us.  The girls, of course, always enjoy being in a new place with new toys and playing with their wonderful grandparents.  And for me, even though my parents work all day and I'm still on my own with the girls, it feels like a break.  It's a change of scenery, a really peaceful place to be, and I don't feel the pull of housework as much while the girls are sleeping.  So, I get to rest-- and rest I did.  I read some of my novel, slept a lot, and managed to watch some of the Bruins game Monday night before falling asleep on the couch around 9:30 PM.

Speaking of the Bruins... THEY WON THE STANLEY CUP!!!!!  Need I say more?

Upon our return home, we celebrated the start of our CSA on Thursday.  Not only will we be getting farm-fresh fruits and veggies every week until November, but I'll have an excuse for a weekly trip to the farm with the girls (the chickens, goats, and pretty flowers are always a big hit... as well as the year-round cider donuts at the farm store... I really hope I can keep those tempting donuts from becoming a weekly ritual...)

Strawberries were included in the first week, and I had trouble keeping the girls from eating them all before Aunt Beth could come over to pick some up (we're splitting our share with her).  When we came home from picking up the veggies this week, it was lunch time and we were all starving.  I put L up in her high chair and gave her a whole strawberry to munch on while I prepared lunch.  When I turned around a minute later, she had completely devoured it-- leaves and all.  Many more followed after that.  Unfortunately, in my haste I did not get a bib on to save that white shirt.

Check out my strawberry-filled belly!

Three cheers for strawberries!

Mmmmmmmmm...
Lots of things are going on in our life!!  How is yours?
